What is ancillary relief?

Ancillary relief is in addition to divorce, it is “ancillary” to the divorce petition.  If you jointly own your property with your wife or husband then it would be part of the divorce process to arrange what would happen to it, whether it is sold or transferred.  You also need to consider other money issues arising after separation, such as pensions, income and any additional assets you have, whether it is capital or income.

The aim of ancillary relief is to try and maintain the standard of living for each person in the marriage after separation.
